Compression moulding is a moulding process for plastics.
Compression moulding begins by making a mould. The mold is filled with a granulate (comminuted raw material) which has been melted. Then the mold is pressed together under high pressure so that the mold fills with melted plastics and then it is cooled. When the plastic component has hardened, it is simply lifted from the mold.
Compression moulding is a manufacturing method that is well suited for larger components, often with quite complex shapes. The production time of compression moulding is relatively short, typically a few minutes. The process is carried out by a few workshops, which are mostly focused on moulding plastic.
